FERRIES TO MULL
There are 2 ferries by which you can get to Aros Mains which are run by Caledonian Macbrayne (Calmac). They have a great website at www.calmac.co.uk and they also have apps for iPhone, Blackberry and Android smartphones too.
Caledonian Macbrayne's ferries can be booked online or by using the UK freephone number 0800 066 5000.
There are 2 different timetables for summer and winter, the summer timetables generally run from April to mid-October.
Here are the details of the 2 relevant Caledonian Macbrayne ferries:
Oban - Craignure
This is the main ferry to Mull, it is generally very busy in the summer and vehicles must be booked well in advance to ensure that you can travel when you need to. It is not necessary to book if you are travelling as a foot passenger. The crossing takes 45 minutes and there is a full bar, food and refereshments service on board.
Lochaline - Fishnish
This is a handy small ferry which travels from the village of Lochaline on Morven to Fishnish on the Mull side. It is not neccessary or possible to book this ferry which can be part of the appeal for those flying or sailing by the seat of their pants. The crossing takes only 15 minutes, there are no bar, food or refreshment services on board however these can be bought at the queue-side cafe or the local shop in Lochaline.
DRIVING ON MULL
There are many single track roads on Mull and those not experienced driving on this road type should take care and keep their speed down. Passing places are provided which should be used to allow traffic to pass from the front and also to allow vehicles behind to overtake.
The roads are subject to harsh weather conditions and are therefore liable to damage and potholes so extra care should be taken.
